This is my first year actively following Canadian Track & Field and I am stunned at the bias in coverage by Athletics Canada towards the track events. Field events are clearly used as filler between track events. It was hugely frustrating to have a field final interrupted so we could rush back to a track heat!! In addition, the video archive for the National Championships contains 2 field event videos out of a total of 274 (that's 0.7%!) Perhaps its a funding thing but its not unreasonable to imagine field events taking on more popularity in Canada and consequently getting more participation and funding if organizing bodies like Athletics Canada actually put an effort into making them more visible.
Completely agree with this - it's systemic. There was essentially no coverage of the Senior Men's High Jump competition - even though there were Olympic level athletes (Mike Mason) competing. Also comments from the commentators that they were going to the field events 'while there was a break in the action' clearly indicates that they don't see the field events as 'action'. My son is a high jumper and I am often forced to catch glimpses of him as the camera follows runners around the track. Given that Canada has World Champions in both High Jump and Pole Vault, it's very disappointing that these and other field events are given so little attention.
Women's PV yesterday with 3 Olympians had no coverage, yet showing men's PV warm up now where only 1 athlete has hit world standard. AC needs to get their priorities straight. Speechless with how horrible the live stream this week has been going.
wakin up this morning to watch women shot put with 2 olympians and one of them broke canadian record this summer ... noooo AC its more important to watch runner place their starting block est walk around .... shame on you
That ain't track and field ... that's track coverage only ... com'on only 2 vids on-demand for field events ... Sorry Athletics Canada but you seriously failed in your only job that is to promote Track AND FIELD ... No throwing events at all but hours and hours or running ...
the link to the field event videos did not work for me and they cannot be found on a search through runnerspace+ either... just saw one video of pole vault that is on the left here--thanks

Can you please show field events or take video of them? I am so sad we did not see any U20 women's high jump yesterday. 1 field event video of 203? We really want to see U20 field events as well--lots of excited parents and fans out here in BC.
